Graduation 2017-18

Project SEARCH Bradford celebrated our fifth graduation on Tuesday 26th June, to mark the end of the year for our 2017-18 interns. Eight interns graduated- all of whom have demonstrated during their time working in their rotations at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, that they are ready for paid employment.

Professor Clive Kay, chief executive of the Foundation Trust, opened the graduation and certificates were presented by Professor Bill McCarthy, Chair at Bradford Teaching Hospitals, Councillor Richard Dunbar, Viki Potter, Deputy Head of Southfield School, and Pat Campbell, director of HR at BTHFT.

This year, interns have had placements across Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke’s Hospital, working in a range of roles including the neonatal unit, a number of wards, portering, finance, pharmacy, IT, medical records, web development, administration in ENT and maternity, receipt and distribution, the paediatric secretaries’ team, HR, the Listening for Life Centre and the Lifestyle restaurant run by the Compass group.

To date, three interns have started paid jobs. Sam is working as an administrator for the hospital’s estates and facilities department following a competitive interview process earlier this year, Sophie is a school catering assistant for Bradford Council and Kieron has found employment as an apprentice landscape gardener.

Other interns have job offers in the pipeline but are awaiting confirmation of start dates. Aidan will be working for Bradford Teaching Hospitals in an administrative apprenticeship, Jordan will be working in a cleaning role, and Joe’s manager from Compass announced at the graduation that he has been offered a paid role at the Lifestyle Restaurant in the BRI.

Huge congratulations for all our interns- you have done extremely well this year, and we are very proud of you all! With a few more weeks to go of the programme, we hope for more employment news very soon.

Follow us on twitter @PSEARCHBradford or facebook for updates about our intern’s new jobs.

A new cohort of interns will be welcomed into the project in September 2018, and we are excited about entering into our sixth year of the programme.

Recruitment for 2019-20 will begin later this year, so any future interns should keep an eye out, here on our website for details about how to apply.
